The Associated Students executive search committee appointed Nicolas Monteiro as the new VP External Affairs and Derek Lim as the new AVP Health and Wellness this past week. The search committee submitted their decisions to the senate, who confirmed the nominees.

Students and community members gathered in front of Silent Tree yesterday afternoon to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). Organized by members of NASA, the event was a part of a UC-wide action against the pipeline.

On Thursday morning, students and faculty received an email from Chancellor Pradeep Khosla announcing Dalai Lama as this year’s all-campus commencement speaker. As part of his first stop in his U.S. tour, the Dalai Lama will speak at a public commencement.

Approximately five hundred people gathered to rally in response to President Trump’s executive order on immigration, banning all refugees and immigration from countries. The march was an effort to build solidarity among students in light of what many are recognizing as a “Muslim ban.”

Hundreds of UCSD students, faculty members, and staff demanded the University’s denunciation of the Trump presidency during a walk-out strike and public rally. Organized by the LZC, participants attempted to block parking lots and traffic to disrupt the normal flow of the university.
